THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has writtena letter to union minister Dr. Jitendra Singh demanding that the CBI must re-examine its stance that it’s not ready to take up the case of the custodial death of Neyyatinkara native Sreejiv, who is the brother of Sreejith, who has been observing a hunger strike in front of the Secretariat since 765 days seeking justice for his brother.
Earlier the CBI declined to take up the case stating that it is not rarest of the rare and that it already has too many cases to handle.
Chennithala has said that even while the police claim that they have no hand in Sreejiv’s death, the police complaint authority has found out that it’s the police who are responsible for the death.
He has added, the public has risen up to support Sreejith’s demand that this needs to be investigated.
Chennithala has also said that the CBI saying this is not a rarest of the rare case is not right, and that since the police is involved, central agencies like CBI are the best to probe the case.
He has since asked the union minister to instruct the CBI to take up the case.
