THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A native of Vazhuthacaud here and an industrial designer Kasturi Anirudhan has gifted the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple with a new machine designed by himself to grind turmeric into paste.

He submitted the machine after arriving at the West gate of the temple on Sunday, which is also the Makara Sankranti day, and executive officer V Ratheesan accepted the machine. The temple tantric performed the switch on of the machine at an event held at the temple at 4.15 pm.

The employees at the temple will be given training in using the machine, which is made with stainless-steel. There is also security provision in the machine to tackle overload of power.

Meanwhile, the executive officer has informed that yellow sandalwood paste would be distributed at the temple again. The yellow sandalwood paste is made by mixing vermilion with the sandal. The executive officer has informed that an order has been placed for vermilion powder.

The temple stopped distributing yellow sandalwood paste during K N Sateesh’s tenure as executive officer when complaints were raised against using saffron powder available in the market to mix with the sandalwood paste.

The temple then acquired the license for obtaining sandalwood and enough of it was stocked in the temple. Now, with the order for the vermilion powder, the old yellow sandalwood paste would be made available at the temple again.
