KOLLAM: Union Minister of State for Tourism K J Alphons is trying to hoodwink the public by convening meetings of Rubber Board officials and rubber farmers, alleged Kodikunnil Suresh, MP.

“He is trying to implement BJP’s secret agenda by avoiding Kerala MPs who have been raising the issues of farmers in Parliament for the last four years. It's only a tactic to protect his position,” he said. Suresh also added that through his intervention the Union Minister hopes to influence a large section of voters in central Kerala in favour of BJP. He pointed out that Alphons had made many promises at an earlier meeting of Rubber Board officials at Kottayam. “But in the Union Budget rubber farmers were totally neglected. Alphons is deliberately avoiding MPs from rubber farming areas such as Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki so that he is not exposed,” he said. He also criticised the closing down of sub regional offices that have been supporting the framers at the taluk level.
