THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Businessman and bar owner Biju Ramesh has revealed that the CPM leadership had promised him that all the closed bars would be reopened if he is ready to go ahead with the bar bribery case against former finance minister K M Mani.

He added that it was CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishanan who personally met him and made the promise, and added that he had also met V S Achuthanandan and Pinarayi Vijayan regarding the same.

Talking to a private channel, he said that the LDF backed off from fulfilling the promise once they came to power.

“We’ll have to say the LDF cheated if they acquit K M Mani after dismissing the bar bribery case. It’s not just me, but they would also be cheating the public who believed in their promise of corruption-free governance.  Everyone knows that K M Mani cannot escape from the bar bribery case without the help of the CPM. It’s disheartening to see that the same people who encouraged me to go ahead with the case against Mani, are striking deals with Mani behind me,” he said.

Ramesh also said that the attempt to dismiss the bar bribery scam by saying that there aren’t enough evidence is a high-level fraud.

He added that the bar owners would be ready to testify against Mani if they are given political support.
