KASARGOD:  A Class 10 student of the Chattamchal Higher Secondary School in Kasaragod who had been reported missing since March 1 was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Monday. The decomposed body of the student was recovered from a drainage close to the railway track at Kalnad, near Uduma.

A police team headed by Bekal Circle Inspector V K Vishwambharan is conducting investigations to ascertain the cause of death.

The Bekal police said the student had left his home on March 1 saying that he was going to buy new clothes to wear for the send-off function at the school. The boy’s parents lodged a complaint with the Bekal police station when he failed to return home. The police suspect that the student was a ganja addict. The body was sent to the Pariyaram Medical College Hospital for detailed autopsy examination.

Four acquaintances of the boy, including three juveniles, were interrogated by the police on Monday. The police said the youngsters confessed to consuming drugs on a regular basis. The police said preliminary investigations pointed out that the boy had been killed after being run over by a train while walking along the track under the influence of drugs.
