THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has informed the Assembly that the government is taking required precautions following the warning by the India Meteorological Department that the depression that originated to the south of Kanyakumari is gaining in strength.

“All department heads were passed on the information as soon as we got the information from the Centre at 9.23 am on March 10. Warning s for the fishermen to not to venture into the sea were given through loudspeakers along the coastal areas and through their phones. A Control room was set up at the Thiruvananthapuram Collectorate,” he said.

The warning from the Centre is not to go fishing in the sea until March 14. The CM has also said that no fisherman has gone fishing in the sea as per records of the government.

The explanation by the CM was on the demand by the opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala to provide details of the measures taken based on the warning received form the Centre.
