NEW DELHI: Reports say that former BJP state president and national executive committee member V Muraleedharan, who might become a Rajya Sabha member from Maharashtra, might become a Union Minister as well.

The Central Cabinet reshuffle is around the corner, and it is heard that Muraleedharan is being considered to be included in the cabinet. If so, the number of Union Ministers from Kerala would raise to two. Alphonse Kannanthanam from Kerala was already made a Union Minister.

Muraleedharan would file his nomination to contest for the RS seat on Monday.

It was BJP national president Amit Shah who informed Muraleedharan, who is currently in Shimoga in connection with the Karnataka Assembly elections, about the party’s decision on Sunday. This was followed by Muraleedharan reaching Kozhikode, getting hold of all documents required to file his nomination and flew to Mumbai.

V Muraleedharan, who was the BJP state president for two consecutive terms from 2009 till 2015, was also the Nehru Yuva Kendra vice chairman and director general during the time of the Vagpayee cabinet.

Muraleedharan, who’s a native of Thalassery, has also served as ABVP state joint secretary and ABVP all India general secretary.
