THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Left front has decided to make CPM Alappuzha district secretary Saji Cherian its candidate. Saji, who came into the lime light through students’ politics, had lost the election when he was pitted against Congress’ P C Vishnunath in 2006.

But in the current circumstances, the LDF’s assessment is that Saji’s candidature will be helpful
The by-election in Chegannur constituency became necessary following the death of MLA K K Ramachandran. Congress’ D Vijayakumar is UDF candidate. BJP leader Adv Sreedharan Pillai will also contest as NDA candidate.
