THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Union Met department has announced that strong depression that had formed in the deep sea at the South of Kanyakumari and Sri Lanka may intensify further. The velocity of the wind may increase up to 60 km per hr and the waves may rise up to a height of 2.5 to 3.2 metre.

Following the forecast and in the face of choppy seas, State disaster management authority has warned fishermen against going out into the seas on the West of Sri Lanka, east of Lakshadweep and west of Kanyakumari and Thiruvananthapuram and in areas near to Maldives, till March 14.

The depression that may intensify on Tuesday will intensify further when it reaches the south of Arabian Sea.

Till March 14, South of Kerala is likely to get heavy rains. This warning will be in effect till Wednesday.
