THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The met department has warned of strong rain and gale along Kerala coast within the next 36 hours as a low depression area was spotted in the south of Kanyakumari and South of Sri Lanka.

The wind may blow at 65 km per hour and the waves may rise up to three metre.

In Thiruvananthapuram, the strong low depression was spotted at 390 km south, along south-west region. The chief minister had instructed the chief secretary to make an assessment of the present situation. The secretary has called an urgent meeting to take stock of the situation.

Following the forecast and in the face of choppy seas, State disaster management authority has warned fishermen against going out into the seas on the West of Sri Lanka, east of Lakshadweep and west of Kanyakumari and Thiruvananthapuram and in areas near to Maldives, till March 14.
