KOCHI: The Kochi Police on Tuesday recorded the statements of petitioners in the case against Syro-Malabar Church Cardinal George Alencherry and three others in connection with an alleged illegal land deal in an Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese.
The Central police had recorded the statement of complainant and Cherthala native Shine Varghese, alleging irregularity in the land deal.

The recording of statement extend up to two hours. Shine disclosed the details of the deal before the police. In connection with the deal, the police had filed a case against Cardinal Alancherry, making him the first accused. This was done heeding to the court’s direction.

CUSAT St. Johns Church vicar father Joshy Pothuva, vicar general at Archbishop House father Sebastian Vadakkumpadam, real estate broker Saaju Varghese have been made accused two to four in the case.

The police had submitted FIR against them in the court, accusing them of criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust and cheating in sale of over three acres of land, worth crores of rupees, belonging to the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese.

Meanwhile, it is known that the Cardinal had given an appeal against the order of the Division bench. The four accused will be questioned after a decision is made on that petition.
