New Delhi: Veteran actor Vinod Khanna has been honoured with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for his contribution to the Indian cinema.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India's highest award in cinema. It is presented annually at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

As of 2016, the award comprises a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of Rs. 1,000,000.

The announcement came after a 10-member panel sat on Friday to confer the awards.

Jury members include Kannada director P Sheshadri, screenwriter Imtiaz Hussain, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Tripurari Sharma, South Indian actress Gautami Tadimalla, Ranjit Das, Rumi Jaffrey, lyricist Mehboob, and Rajesh Mapuskar, headed by director Shekhar Kapur.

The official ceremony will be held on May 3, where President Ram Nath Kovind will hand-over the awards to the winners.
