THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It has been confirmed that the girl child who was brought for treatment for blood cancer to the Regional Cancer Research Centre (RCC) had contracted HIV from the hospital itself. Reports saying that the child was given the blood of an HIV infected person has come out.

This came to light with the report of the AIDS Control Society’s analysis. The report says that the child was given the blood of 48 persons during her treatment and one of the donors of blood was an HIV infected person. This was not detected initially since the patient was in window period.

The child died the other day. The victim was a native of Alappuzha who has been undergoing treatment there for the past 13 months.

She died at the Vandanam Medical College while undergoing treatment for pneumonia there.

She was taken to the RCC as referred by the Alappuzha Medical College on March 1, 2018. She was suspected to have contracted HIV after blood transfusion.
