THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister K K Shailaja has called striking government doctors for talks. She will hold talks with representatives of doctors’ organisations who are leading the protest against extension of OP time in government hospitals without recruiting sufficient staff.

It is known that soon after the talks there will be an official declaration on withdrawing the strike.

Earlier though the representatives had tried to meet the minister, she did not give them permission and send them back, asking them to end the strike first.

The minister had also said in the morning that doctors’ strike without prior notice was not acceptable and she would sit for talks only after the strike ended.

Meanwhile, the government is believed to have shed its reluctance for talks as the strike entered the fourth day.
