KOTTAYAM: With just four more months for the ‘neelakurinji’ season in Munnar, sex rackets have come out with ‘sex packages’ targeting tourists to the hill station. They have put up ads in websites with the caption ‘A memorable day for you along with the mesmerising sights of neelakurinji.’

The neelakurinjis bloom in the month of August, and there would be a huge inflow of tourists to Munnar during this season. Hotels and resorts have already opened their bookings considering the kind of rush they would be having during the season. This is an ideal situation for the sex rackets that also targets foreign tourists.

These rackets make use of the women among them to transact and communicate with potential customers. They make promise of making available women of different age groups in Munnar for their customers. These rackets are mainly concentrated in Kochi and their operation is majorly carried out online.

A customer can look up for phone numbers of agents online and fix a deal. They would send pictures of young girls through WhatsApp, and will also arrange for a video call with these females if needed.

Kerala Kaumudi’s ‘Flash’ found out about these sex rackets online in an investigation. The ‘Flash’ team also had a conversation with a female agent from Munnar.

These rackets close the deal giving assurance that there wouldn’t be any police raid or other troubles since there would be big rush because of the Kurinji season in Munnar. They give you a three-day package. The package would cost Rs. 25,000 if you need a female above the age of 35. And with the age of the female you need decreasing, the rates could go up from Rs. 35,000 to over Rs. 1 lakh.

In most of the cases, the accommodation will have to be looked after by the customer itself but they also provide packages that include accommodation.

When the ‘Flash’ team remarked that the rates are quite high, the female agent replied that it’s affordable to foreigners. These rackets have rooms booked in some hotels and resorts.

They also lure customers by offering transportation to reach Munnar. If you reach any of the neighbouring districts or Idukki and call them up, someone would come to pick you up. The customer must inform them in advance if the pick-up is from the airport. They will take the customer in a car to any of the home stays or hotels in their list.

There are also groups that make available females from outside the state.

Some hotels and homestays play hand-in-glove with these rackets, and it is said that they also have the silent permission of the police.
