KOTTAYAM: The students of K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts, touted as the third film institute in the country, are in protest over the failure of the administration to arrange for the basic infrastructure needed for a national film institute.

The main allegation raised by the students is that the institute that was established in 2014, and named after our former president K R Narayanan, has now become leaderless. They have said that a preview theatre or a mixing studio, which are essential for a national-level film institute is missing in their institute. They have also alleged that the fund allotted for the diploma film of the final year students have also not been made available for them. They added that they had to complete the film project worth Rs. 2 lakhs for a meagre amount of Rs. 35,000.

“That the institute need a permanent director is a demand that we have been raising for some time. K Ambadi is the current director of the institute. But since he is also in charge of other departments, he is unable to dedicate enough time for the institute,” said the students.

The students have decided to continue with the protest until a permanent solution for their problems is reached.
