THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police have made a shocking revelation that the “pro-terror” organisation called SDPI was the mastermind of the undeclared hartal observed on Monday in the name of Kathu rape and killing incident. (The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) is a political party, founded on 21 June 2009. It is the political wing of the Popular Front of India.)
The call for hartal was mysteriously made through WhatsApp and Facebook. The primary assessment of the investigation team is that SDPI activists were behind propagating this message. They were the ones who unleashed violence and arson under the cover of hartal. Many temples, shops, vehicles and policemen were attacked. Police have found out that it was SDPI activists who indulged in violence and most of the persons taken into custody were found to be SDPI activists and supporters.
The police have started investigation to find out the real source of hartal that had seen state-wide atrocities. The charge of the investigation will be for a special team headed by the State police chief. A probe will also be held to find out whether any other terror organisation had role in the violence and if they had misused the social media. Besides this, Intelligence agencies are also conducting parallel investigations.
The police are going ahead with strong action against those involved in the hartal-related violence. In the search conducted, more than 250 persons were taken into custody from various regions.
The arrest of 150 persons was registered. Though most among them were released on bail, about 15 persons who had led attacks were produced in the court and remanded. Prohibitory order is continuing at Thiroor, Thanoor and Parappanangadi police station limits.
Meanwhile, SDPI have sought an investigation into attacks held under the cover of hartal. “The attacks, seen the other day afternoon, give room for several doubts. Police have only arrested less than 20 of our activists,” they added.
