BENGALURU: While the perception from the BJP's poll campaign was that its chief minister candidate B S Yeddyurappa was being given a 'low profile' compared with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the party's stunning performance in the counting of votes on Tuesday seems to ensure that the Lingayat strongman will be having the last laugh, reports The Week.

Congratulating Yeddyurappa for his win in Shikaripura, which he has represented since 1983, the verified Twitter handle of the BJP's Karnataka unit stated, “In a few hours from now, @BSYBJP will lead a stable and strong BJP government in Karnataka as Chief Minister.”

The perception that some in the BJP wanted to cut Yeddyurappa down to size grew when his son B S Raghavendra wasn't given a poll ticket.

Moreover, B Sriramulu, an associate of the Reddy brothers, was touted as a possible deputy CM, given his dalit background, by none other than party chief Amit Shah. However, Sriramulu losing Badami, one of the two seats he contested in, could weaken his claims.
