KOCHI: The city police on Tuesday arrested a 33-year-old man on the charge of cheating several women after offering to marry them.

The accused was identified as Vijesh Vijayan, a resident of Aroor, who worked as the door checker of a private bus plying on the Chellanam-Kaloor route.

He was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by a woman, a native of Panangad, who used to travel frequently in the bus. After entering into a relationship with her, he allegedly extended to her a false promise of marriage and shot her pictures using a mobile phone.

The woman parted ways with him after finding out that he had relationships with several women. “Following this, he threatened to put the mobile picture of them together in social media and forced her to hand over Rs. 50,000, besides making her buy an air-conditioner, TV and other gadgets. Finally, when he asked her to come with him, she approached the Panangad police station, where a complaint was lodged and it was subsequently transferred to the Ernakulam Town police station’’, the police said.

Upon an inspection of his mobile phone, nude pictures and videos of many women were found.

The police are probing whether he had cheated any other woman in the same manner.

Vijesh was produced before a court which remanded him in judicial custody.
