THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has written to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, seeking comprehensive and unbiased investigation into the death of Kannur Pinarayi native Unais, who died following police beating. He also demanded action against police officers who are responsible for his death.

“Unais, an auto driver died on May 2, following custodial torture. He was taken into custody in February. He was beaten up severely in the police station, resulting in internal organ damages. Moreover, Unais’ relatives alleged that Edakkadu station police officers had threatened him that he would be beaten to death and it would be publicised as a case of suicide. Unais’ death has orphaned his wife and four children. As the lockup beatings are on the rise, it is high time the government took serious action against the real culprits,” Chennithala said.
