KOCHI: The Muvattupuzha Vigilance court ordered a preliminary inquiry against ten persons, including top officials of the Kerala Public Service Commission and the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), over the alleged irregularities in the appointment of sub-engineers.

Considering a complaint by P R Vasudevan Potti, a member of the Kerala Wireman and Supervisors Association, the court observed there were “prima facie materials” to proceed with an inquiry and directed the Superintendent of Police, Central Range, to conduct a preliminary inquiry and file a report before July 21.

As per the complainant, the Chairman, Secretary, and the Chief Engineer (HRA) of the KSEB conspired with others, who are working as overseers with the board, to appoint non-qualified persons as sub-engineers. The appointments were carried out by abusing their official position as public servants and they obtained pecuniary advantage.

The court, meanwhile, ruled out the demand for an inquiry against the PSC chairman, citing that he took charge only after the period during which the alleged irregularities had taken place.

The officers who are set to face the inquiry include PSC secretary Saju George and its regional officer Ganeshan, KSEB chairman Elangovan, KSEB secretary Rajathilakam M G, and A Jayalatha, Chief Engineer (HRM).
