THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress leader V M Sudheeran has clarified that he had not asked for closing down all bars. He had only asked for the closure of bars that didn’t follow rules.

“I heard someone in the A Group saying that our liquor policy was the reason for the loss in election.  I had asked for closing 418 bars which, according to the CAG, was not functioning as per guidelines. They were issued licence by the LDF government. My stand was well-accepted by the UDF constituents and people. It was then Chandy ordered to close all 730 bats without discussing with anyone. This he did out of jealousy over the support I was getting for my liquor stand,” he said.
