THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau on Monday arrested a police officer on suspicion of having demanded and accepted a bribe from the relative of the victim of a motor accident.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, VACB, Alappuzha, Rex Bobby Arvin arrested Additional Sub-Inspector, Ambalapuzha police station, A M Kabir, while he allegedly accepted Rs 7,000, all in marked currency notes, from the complainant.

The petitioner, Babish, a resident of Tamil Nadu, is the brother of Vijayakumar who died in an accident on Kakkazham Overbridge in Ambalapuzha on April 11. The Vigilance case is that Kabir had deliberately delayed the release of the vehicle involved in the accident and refused to process the papers for filing a claim for motor accident compensation in order to extort money from the victim’s family.
