KOCHI: A 14-year-old boy drowned while learning to swim at a pond near Koothattukulam in the district on Tuesday. The boy was identified as Jomon, a Class 9 student at a private school in Koothattukulam. The incident took place around 10 a.m. when he was being trained in swimming by his elder brother, an undergraduate student. Jomon was floating in the water with the help of an inflated tube when it flipped suddenly, causing him to drown. On raising an alarm, locals rushed to the spot and conducted a search operation. Jomon was brought out of the water in about 15 minutes but was declared brought dead at a hospital. Jomon was the youngest son of Jimmi K. Thomas and Mini and is survived by two brothers.
