KOLLAM: The priest who sexually abused a woman after blackmailing her using her secret confessions has been arrested. Kollam DySP arrested Father Job Matthew from his relative’s house in Kollam. The crime branch, who recorded his arrest today, has taken him to the commissioner’s office for interrogation.

The court had yesterday dismissed the anticipatory bail pleas of Fr Sony Varghese, the first accused in the case and that of fourth accused Fr Jayce K George. Two other accused are absconding. The court will pronounce the verdict on the third accused Fr Johnson V Mathew later.

All the accused have a close relationship with the woman’s family. Sony Varghese had been sexually abusing the woman giving her marriage promises from November 1999 to 2002 till she got married. He had no connection with her till 2005. He later abused her from 2006 to 2017 blackmailing to expose the old stories. She revealed this to Father Job during confession. He continued the abuse till 2012. Job later abused her blackmailing to reveal the confession secrets to her husband. He had sleazy talks with her in the phone and this continued till 2012.
