KOCHI: A person was killed after the mini lorry he was driving was hit by a tipper lorry at Athani near Nedumbassery on Wednesday.

The dead was identified as M R Sudhi, 47, of Ayirur near Nedumbassery. Though he was rushed to a hospital nearby, he died of the injuries. His aide, Anoop, a resident of Meloor, suffered injuries and remains admitted in the hospital.

According to the police, the mini lorry driven by the victim was proceeding to Ernakulam when the tipper lorry, proceeding in the opposite direction, jumped the median separating the lanes and rammed the lorry. The tipper lorry driver reportedly lost control in his attempt to evade a speeding car that suddenly emerged from a side road.

The victim got trapped between the steering wheel and the seat for a while before he was rescued and rushed to the hospital.
