KANNUR:  Two persons were killed in a landslip after heavy rain lashed Karikottakari in this district on Wednesday.

According to sources, the dead have been identified as Thomas (75) and his daughter-in-law Shyni John (40) of Keezhanghanam near Karikottakiri. The incident occurred around 6 pm after their house collapsed in landslip. The bodies have been shifted to Pariyaram Medical College hospital for post-mortem.

Heavy rains was reported at hilly areas in Kannur and landslides were reported at Payavoor, Irrity, Kappimala, Ottathai Udumberi and Vaithalkundu areas.

The rain caused widespread damage to crops at several parts in the district. District collector has announced a holiday to educational institutions, including professional colleges, coming under Thaliparamba and Iritty taluk on Thursday following heavy rains.
