The Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has invited applications for its national-level Common Admission Test (CAT) to be held on May 5 and 6 for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Applications can be registered online on http://iraaa.cusat.ac.in till February 5.

The test will be conducted in all district headquarters and centres including Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, New Delhi, Nagpur, Allahabad, Ranchi, and Kolkata.

Admission to the B.Tech. programme, the five-year integrated M.Sc. course in photonics, MA Hindi and applied economics programmes, and the five-year BA LL.B. (Honours) programmes will be based on the rank obtained in the test on May 5. The engineering branches are computer science, information technology, civil, electrical and electronics, electronics and communication, mechanical, marine, and safety and fire engineering, naval architecture and shipbuilding, instrumentation technology, and polymer science and rubber engineering.

Those who have passed Plus Two or equivalent examinations with mathematics, physics, and chemistry with at least 50 per cent marks taken together and at least as much in mathematics separately may apply for most of the branches of the B.Tech. course and the M.Sc. photonics course. The entry qualification for the B.Tech. instrumentation technology course is minimum 60 per cent marks for the three science subjects and 55 per cent for mathematics. For the B.Tech. marine engineering course, minimum 60 per cent marks are required for mathematics, physics, and chemistry taken together and 50 per cent separately for mathematics and English. Age should not exceed 25. For the naval architecture and shipbuilding course, minimum 60 per cent marks are required for the qualifying examination and 50 per cent separately for mathematics.

The minimum qualification required for the BA LL.B. (Honours) course is 60 per cent marks for science and commerce and 55 per cent for arts and humanities subjects in Plus Two or equivalent examinations. The upper age limit is 20. Those appearing the qualifying examination in 2012 will be considered.

The admission test for postgraduate programmes, including LL.M.; MBA international business and travel and tourism; MCA; and M.Sc. courses, will be held on May 6. The M.Sc. course is conducted in applied chemistry, biotechnology, electronics science, environmental technology, hydrochemistry, industrial fisheries, marine biology, marine geology, marine geophysics, mathematics, meteorology, oceanography, physics, and statistics and instrumentation.

Admission to the M.Tech course is based on the score in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. If enough number of applicants with the score are unavailable, a department-level admission test will be conducted.

A lateral entry test for admission to the third semester B.Tech. course will be held on May 13 only in Kochi. The braches available are computer science; information technology; civil, electrical and electronics, electronics and communication, safety and fire, and mechanical engineering, polymer sciences and rubber engineering, and instrumentation. Those with a first-class diploma in engineering or technology and below the age of 25 as on July 1, 2012 may apply.

Details are available on the website. The application fee is Rs.950 (Rs.425 for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes). Confirmation page of the online registration, along with a demand draft for the application fee drawn on a branch of the State Bank of India or the State Bank of Travancore in favour of the Registrar, Cusat, payable in Kochi and other documents, should be sent to the Director, International Relations and Academic Admission, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi – 682 022.

The admit card can be downloaded from the website from April 20.


Dental entrance test
The Commissioner for Entrance Examination has invited applications for an entrance test to be held in Thiruvananthapuram on February 19 for admission to the MDS course at the government dental colleges in Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, and Kozhikode and some self-financing colleges. Those with a BDS degree who complete their internship on or before April 15 may apply. The upper age limit is 45. For service candidates, it is 47.

The application fee is Rs.1,000 (Rs.500 for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes). Apply online on www.cee.kerala.gov.in and send the printout, along with a demand draft for the application fee and documents, to the Commissioner for Entrance Examination, Housing Board Buildings, Santhinagar, Thiruvananthapuram – 695 001 by registered post so as to reach there on or before January 21 or submit in person at the office before the deadline.

The admit card will be available online from February 12.
