The Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET), Punjab, under the Union government, has invited applications for a national-level entrance test to be held on June 2 and 3 for admission to various courses.

Two-year diploma programmes are offered in chemical technology, food technology, computer science and applications, computer science and engineering, electronics and communication engineering, instrumentation and process control, and mechanical engineering (industrial and production engineering, maintenance and plant engineering, welding technology, and foundry technology).

Entry qualification is a pass in Plus Two or equivalent examinations with physics, chemistry, and mathematics, and a score of at least 50 per cent marks (45 per cent for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes). Those who have studied biotechnology, computer science or biology instead of chemistry at the Plus Two level are also eligible to apply.

Degree programmes are condcuted in chemical engineering (polymer technology), chemical engineering, food technology, computer science and engineering, electronics and communication engineering, instrumentation and control engineering, mechanical engineering (manufacturing and welding technology), and information technology. Those who have a diploma in any branch from a State Board of Technical Education, securing at least 50 per cent marks (45 per cent) are eligible to apply.

M.Tech. programmes are conducted in manufacturing systems engineering, mechanical engineering (welding and fabrication), food engineering and technology, instrumentations and control engineering, polymer engineering, and electronics and communication engineering. Those with a degree in engineering or technology with at least 55 per cent marks (50 per cent) may apply.

The MBA programme offers specialisation in marketing management, human resource development, material management, labour welfare, and industrial relations. Those with a degree or postgraduate degree in any discipline with minimum 55 per cent marks (50 per cent) may apply. Those appearing for the final-year qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.

The M.Sc. course is conducted in physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Those with a degree in physics, chemistry or mathematics with at least 55 per cent marks (50 per cent) may apply.

Ph.D. programmes are conducted in chemical technology, chemistry, electrical and instrumentation engineering, electronics and communication engineering, humanities (English), food engineering and technology, management, mathematics, mechanical engineering, and physics. Those with a Master's degree in engineering, technology, science, humanities, and management with at least 60 per cent marks (55 per cent) may apply.

The detailed eligibility criteria are given in the information brochure. Applications can be submitted online or offline. The candidates can apply online through www.sliet.ac.in or www.sliet.net.in and pay the fee of Rs.1,000 (Rs.500) through debit or credit card or use a online-generated pay-in-slip in HDFC Bank branches before applying online. The last date for receipt of application is April 30.

The entrance test will be held at various centres, including Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata. Visit www.sliet.ac.in for details.

FDDI entrance test

The Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI), Noida, has invited applications for a national-level entrance test to be held from June 1 to 3 for admission to various courses.

B.Sc. courses are held in footwear technology, fashion merchandising and retail management, and leather goods and accessories design. Those who have passed Plus Two may apply.

M.Sc. courses are held in footwear technology, fashion merchandising and retail management, creative design and CAD/CAM, leather goods and accessories design, and visual merchandising and communication design.

Applications may be submitted online and offline.

A demand draft for Rs.500, the application fee, drawn in favour of the FDDI payable in New Delhi should be submitted with the application. The last date for receipt of applications is May 17.

University test

Pondicherry University has invited applications for an entrance examination to be held on May 26 and 27 across the country for admission to its various postgraduate and doctoral programmes, including M.Sc., MA, integrated MA and M.Sc., M.Tech., MCA, M.Com., MBA, M.Li.Sc., M.Ed., MPEd, LL.M., MSW and postgraduate diploma programmes. In Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Kozhikode will be the entrance test centres.

Those who have passed Plus Two may apply for the five-year integrated MA and M.Sc. programmes in applied geology, chemistry, computer science, economics, mathematics, physics, statistics, history, politics and international studies, and sociology.

A dual postgraduate degree programme is a speciality of the university and the students have the option to acquire two postgraduate degrees in related but distinct fields of study within three years.

No separate applications are required for admission to the programme. This will be applicable only after a student complete one PG programme.

The M.Sc. programmes are offered in several disciplines such as astrophysics, applied psychology, biochemistry and molecular biology, bioinformatics, biotechnology, chemical sciences, computational biology, computer science, electronics media, food sciences and nutrition, food science and technology, mathematics, microbiology, physics, statistics, and disaster management.

The MA programmes are in disciplines such as mass communication, applied economics, English, and international relations.

The M.Tech. programmes are offered in computer science and engineering, electronics, environmental engineering and management, exploration geosciences, green energy technology, nanoscience and technology, and network and Internet engineering. Applications can be submitted online and offline. The application fee is Rs.100. Details may be had from www.pondiuni.edu.in. The last date for receipt of the completed applications is April 16.
