KOLLAM: G Karthikeyan, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, said that Mukesh had succeeded as an actor by maintaining his own individuality. “All artistes should have their individuality and this should not be mimicked by others in the same field,” said Karthikeyan while giving away the Dr K C. Sarasamma Foundation Award to Mukesh at a function here. He said K J  Yesudas was a great singer and musician and the Assembly would honour him on April 11.

Yesudas had succeeded as a singer by maintaining his individuality. But many other singers had entered the field by claiming to sing like Yesudas. “That is not the way it should be,” said Karthikeyan. Each artiste should have his/her individuality to become successful. When we see an actor, the scenes that she/he had enacted should cross our minds. If that happens the actor is a success in the field, Karthikeyan said. The Award, instituted by the Dr K C Sarasamma Foundation was presented to Mukesh for contributions to Malayalam cinema.
