The University of Kerala has invited applications for its postgraduate entrance test starting on May 25 for admission to various courses in its teaching departments. Visit www.keralauniversity.ac.in for application forms and details. The marks obtained in the qualifying examination and the entrance test will be given equal weight in the selection. The test will be conducted in Thiruvananthapuram.

Courses and eligibility

MA

  • English: BA or B.Sc. with 50 per cent marks in Part I or 45 per cent in Part III optional English main.
  • Philosophy: BA with 50 per cent marks or B.Sc. with 55 per cent marks.
  • Archaeology: BA or B.Sc. with 45 per cent marks.
  • History: BA History, Politics, English, Economics, Philosophy, Sociology, or Social Sciences or BBA with 50 per cent marks.
  • Sociology: A degree in any subject with 45 per cent marks.
  • Economics: BA Economics or B.Sc. Mathematics or Statistics with 50 per cent marks.
  • Political Science: BA Politics, Economics, History, Philosophy, Law, Journalism, or Social Science with 50 per cent marks.
  • Psychology: A pass in BA or B.Sc. Psychology.
  • Hindi: BA Hindi main or BA or B.Sc. with Hindi in Part II with aggregate maximum of 300 marks in Hindi.
  • Malayalam: BA Malayalam with 50 per cent marks or 50 per cent marks in Part II Malayalam language.
  • Linguistics: BA, B.Sc., or B.Com. with 50 per cent marks.
  • Arabic: BA Arabic
  • Islamic History: BA Islamic History or Social Science with 50 per cent marks.
  • Sanskrit: BA Sanskrit with 45 per cent marks.
  • Tamil: BA Tamil or second-language Tamil with 50 per cent marks.
  • German: BA or B.Sc. with post diploma with 50 per cent marks or Part II German with 50 per cent marks.
  • Russian: Any degree and diploma in Russian or BA or B.Sc. Part II Russian.
  • Music: BA Music or BPA with 50 per cent marks.

M.Sc

  • Aquatic Biology and Fisheries: B.Sc. Zoology with 55 per cent marks in Part III.
  • Biochemistry: B.Sc. Chemistry or Biochemistry with 55 per cent marks in Part III.
  • Botany: B.Sc. Botany with 55 per cent marks in Part III.
  • Chemistry: B.Sc. Chemistry main with Mathematics as subsidiary with 55 per cent marks.
  • Demography: 55 per cent marks for B.Sc. Mathematics or Statistics or 50 per cent marks for BA Economics, Sociology, Geography, or Anthropology.
  • Geology: B.Sc. Geology with 55 per cent marks in Part III.
  • Mathematics: B.Sc. Mathematics with 55 per cent marks in Part III.
  • Physics: B.Sc. Physics with Mathematics subsidiary and 55 per cent marks in Part III.
  • Statistics: B.Sc. Statistics or Mathematics with Statistics as subsidiary with 55 per cent marks.
  • Zoology: B.Sc. Zoology with 55 per cent marks.
  • Biotechnology: B.Sc. Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, or Aquatic Biology with 55 per cent marks.
  • Computer Science: Degree in Computer Science, Computer Application, or Electronics with 50 per cent marks.
  • Computational Biology: B.Sc. Computer Science or Electronics, BCA, B.Sc. IT, Bioinformatics, or Mathematics or B.Tech. in any branch. Life science students are not eligible for admission.
  • Environmental Science: B.Sc. Botany, Zoology, Life Science, Environmental Science, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Geology with 55 per cent marks.
  • M.Com.: B.Com. with 50 per cent marks.
  • M.Li.Sc.: Degree in any discipline with 50 per cent marks in aggregate.
  • M.Ed.: B.Ed. with 50 per cent marks and MA, M.Sc. or M.Com. with 50 per cent marks.
  • LLM: LL.B. with 50 per cent marks.
  • MCJ (Master of Communication Journalism): Any degree in Arts with 50 per cent marks or Science with 55 per cent in Part III.
  • MSW: A degree in Social Science, Commerce, Science, and Law, BSW, or BBA.

The minimum marks have been relaxed for students belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes. The registration fee is Rs.260 (Rs.135 for students belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes). If a candidate appears for the admission test for more than one programme, Rs.50 (Rs.25) may be added for each additional subject. The registration fee should be paid in the form of a university challan. In case of demand drafts, the registration fee was Rs.280 and they should be drawn on the State Bank of India, the State Bank of Travancore or the District Cooperative Bank in favour of the Finance Officer, University of Kerala, payable in Thiruvananthapuram. Form A of the application will be for the entrance test and Form B for admission. The filled application should be submitted in accordance with the instructions given on the website. The last date for receipt of the completed applications is May 5.

MBA entrance test

The Department of Commerce and Management Studies of the University of Calicut has invited applications for admission to the MBA programme conducted at the department and the self-financing schools of management studies in Kozhikode, Palakkad, Vadakara, Kuttippuram, and Thrissur.

There are 40 seats in each centre. The courses under the credit-and-semester system have four semesters.

A degree in any discipline with minimum 50 per cent marks in aggregate (45 per cent for Other Backward Communities and Other Eligible Communities and pass marks for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Schedules Tribes) is the qualification required. Those awaiting their degree results may apply. Selection is based on an entrance test or the score in CMAT (Common Management Admission Test conducted by the All India Council for Technical Education), a group discussion, and an interview. The test centres are Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Kannur. Those who have a CMAT score are exempted from the test. Apply online on www.universityofcalicut.info. The printout of the application, along with a demand draft for Rs.500 (Rs.167 for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Schedules Tribes), a self-addressed envelope of 26 by 15 cm with a Rs.5 stamp affixed, and a community certificate, if needed, should be sent to the Head, Department of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Calicut, Tenhipalam, Malappuram – 673 635 so as to reach there on or before April 21.
