KANNUR: The Town Police seized Rs 34,90,000 of pipe money (hawala) from the house of one K Jamsheer (25) of Puzhathi near Kakkad in this district. Police said the money was seized during a raid conducted by police following a tip-off. Five people were arrested in this connection.

The arrested were P K Munfeer (23), K P Shameer ((32), K P Sajeer (29), K K Hafseer (21) and K Jamsheer (25), all hailing from Puzhathi and Kakkad near Kannur town. Town Circle Inspector Josy Joseph-led team conducted the raid. Interrogation was underway. The money would be handover to Income Tax Department, police added.
