The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) in Thiruvananthapuram, Pune, Bhopal, Mohali and Kolkata have invited applications for admission to their five-year BS-MS dual-degree courses in science. The courses are offered in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics on an inter-disciplinary basis.

State of the art

The institutes are designed to have residential campuses with state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratories, modern hostels and recreational facilities.

They are among the best options for higher education before Plus Two students in the science stream with aptitude in research.

The first two years of the integrated programme will have core courses in basic sciences.

The third and fourth year will be dedicated to specialisation in the chosen subject. The fifth year will focus on research.

The students are trained to join research and development institutions, academia and science-based industries in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, electronics, materials and polymer.

Those who find a place on the rank list of the Joint Entrance Examination of the Indian Institutes of Technology and with minimum 60 per cent marks in Plus Two may apply.

Aptitude test

Other students who have passed Plus Two in 2011 or 2012 with marks above the cut-off percentage declared on www.inspire-dst.gov.in/inspire-Advertisement.pdf may take the IISER Aptitude Test on July 14. Visit www.iiser-admissions.in for details.

Those with a JEE rank should submit applications before June 21 and others before July 9.

The application fee is Rs. 500 (Rs. 250 for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes).

PG courses in Karnataka
The Karnataka Examination Authority has invited applications through http://kea.kar.nic.in for the Postgraduate Common Entrance Test to be held on July 28 and 29 for admission to MBA, MCA, ME, M.Tech. and M.Arch. courses in Karnataka.

Management seats

Candidates from other States may also take the test, but only management seats will be open to them.

Candidates with a score in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering need not take the test, but they will have to submit applications.

Diploma courses
The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, Kozhikode, has invited applications for admission to job-oriented postgraduate diploma courses in Software Technology, Embedded System Design, VLSI Design and Embedded Hardware Design, Information System Security, Industrial Automation System Design and CAD/CAM.

The courses will be conducted from August to October.
