The state government has introduced the Teacher Eligibility Test as a mandatory qualification for appointment as teachers up to the eighth standard. The test notification will be issued shortly by the Secretary, Pareeksha Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram. The test will be similar to the Central Teacher Eligibility Test. There will be 150 questions, each carrying one mark. There will be no negative marks for wrong answers. Those who have passed Plus Two in any subject combination with minimum 50 per cent marks and have the teachers training certificate may appear for category I (lower primary) of the test. Those who have a BA, B.Sc. or B.Com. degree with minimum 45 per cent marks and B.Ed. degree may appear for category II (upper primary class up to eighth standard). The School of Distance Education of the University of Calicut has invited applications for an entrance examination to be held on August 12 for admission to an MBA programme in the distance-education mode.
