KATTAPPANA: One more person was arrested on Sunday in connection with the rape and death of a 15-year-old girl from Peerumade at Perumbalur in Tamil Nadu. The Peerumade police arrested Harikumar of Peerumade, who allegedly worked as an agent in a deal for sending the girl to Perambalur as a maid.

Another person is absconding, the police said. Earlier, the Tamil Nadu police had arrested the former Perambalur MLA M Rajkumar and two of his accomplices after the post-mortem report from a medical college in Theni confirmed that the girl was raped and she died after consuming poison. The girl died in the medical college on June 4.

A case filed before the Peerumade police by the parents of the victim said that she was sent to the house of Rajkumar on a promise that she could continue her education.

A team led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kattappana, on Saturday arrested two persons from Peerumade who allegedly worked as agents for the deal, sources said.
