THRISSUR: A tusker named Arjunan, owned by the Guruvayur Devaswom, collapsed on Thursday. It has been suffering from leg injuries for the past two months. Animal rights activists allege that the elephant sustained injuries due to torture by mahouts. A surgery was performed on the tusker on Monday. Veterinarian P B Giridas said the tusker had been given a large dose of glucose, multivitamin and antibiotic tablets. “As it lies down, its lung could get infected,” he said.
