KANNUR:  The death due to Jaundice (hepatitis A) rose to three within 15 days, at Adakkathode in Kelakam panchayat near Kottiyoor, and many people are undergoing treatment for the same disease at Peravoor, Thalassery, Pariyaram Medical College and Mangalore hospitals. A 59 year- old woman, Kuttimakal Mani (59) wife of late Vasu of Adakathode, died at Pariyaram Medical college hospital, who was under treatment for jaundice since last week. While, K Rajesh (25) of Memana died on July 12 and Perumal (54) of Melekuttu under the same panchayath died on July 7. Meanwhile, District Medical Officer (DMO) R Ramesh said Mani did not die directly due to the Jaundice disease but because she was suffering from acute belly pancreatitis and had presence of stones in the gall bladder. He also said jaundice in Adakkathode near Peravoor is almost under control after conducting medical camp by the district administration since July 13 and all necessary steps were provided at Adakkatode areas to check the spreading of jaundice. The district administration had shut down some of the hotels in Adakathode Town after it was found that many people who consumed food there got the disease on last week. The DMO advised people to be more cautious and asked people to use boiled water.
