ALAPPUZHA: Sixty four boats, including 16 chundan boats (snake boats), will participate in the diamond jubilee year celebration of the famed Nehru Trophy boat race (snake boat), to be held here at the Punnamada Lake on August 11. All preparations for the boat race to be inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar has been completed. The matches have been scheduled for three days because of the diamond jubilee year. Thekkanodi, Vepp, Churulan and Iruttukuthi will take place following inaugural speech of the Lok Sabha Speaker. The last item is chundan boats (snake boats). Unveiling of Nehru statue, laying of the foundation stone and release of souvenir were other programmes at the time of inauguration.
