The Sainik schools at Kazhakuttam in Thiruvananthapuram and Amaravathi Nagar in Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu have invited separate applications from boys for entrance examinations to be held on January 6 for admission to classes VI and IX. The school prepares boys academically, physically and mentally for entry into the National Defence Academy and other walks of life.

Applicants for Class VI should have been born between July 2, 2002 and July 1, 2003. For admission to Class IX, the applicant should have been born not before July 2, 1999 and not after July 1, 2000 and should be studying in Class VIII in a recognised school.

The Kazhakuttam school will conduct the entrance examination in Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Wayanad and Kazhakuttam and Kavaratti in Lakshadweep. There are 80 seats for Class VI and 10 for Class IX. Application forms can be downloaded from www.sainikschooltvm.org. The filled applications, along with registration fee and documents, should be sent to the Principal, Sainik School, Kazhakuttam so as to reach him on or before December 10. On receipt of the application, prospectus and model question papers will be dispatched to the applicant.

The Amaravathi Nagar school will conduct the entrance examination for Class VI at Amaravathi Nagar and Puducherry and for Class IX in Chennai, Amaravathi Nagar and Puducherry. Here, 100 seats are available for Class VI and 25 for Class IX. Application forms and details can be downloaded from www.sainkschoolamaravathinagar.edu.in. The last date for receipt of application is December 10.

Navodaya School selection test
Applications have been invited for a selection test to be held on February 10 for admission to Class VI in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas for 2013. Kerala has 14 Jawahar Navodaya Vidayalayas, one in each district. The medium of instruction is the mother tongue up to class VIII and English thereafter for maths and science and Hindi for social sciences. Students can continue in the schools up to Class XII under the Central Board of Secondary Education syllabus. Education is free, including boarding, lodging, uniforms and textbooks. A fee of Rs. 200 a month will have to be paid by the students of classes XI and XII. However, students belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes, girls and the physically challenged whose families live below the poverty line are exempted from the fees.

One of the major objectives of the schools is to provide quality modern education to poor students from rural areas. Application forms and details can be downloaded from www.navodayahyd.nic.in or www.navodya.nic.in. Students can apply for admission only to the school in their district. The applicants must be studying in Class V for the academic year 2012- 13 in a recognised school and born between May 1, 2000 and April 30, 2004. The last date for the receipt of applications is October 31. The two-hour selection test covers questions to assess mental ability, arithmetic and language skills of the students. Eighty students will be admitted in Class VI in each school.

C-DIT courses

The Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT) under the State government has invited applications for admission to media technology programmes.

  • Postgraduate diploma courses in Science and Development Communication; Multimedia Design; Television and New Media Journalism; Animation Film Designing; and Technical Writing. Graduates in any discipline may apply.
  • Diploma courses in Digital Media Production; Web Design and Development; Sound Design and Engineering; and Graphic Design for Print and Publishing Media. Entry qualification is a pass in Plus Two.
  • Certificate courses in Non-Linear Editing; Videography; and Digital Still Photography. Entry qualification is a pass in 10th standard. Application fee is Rs. 250 (Rs. 100 for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes).

The courses help get media jobs. Application forms and details can be downloaded from the www.cditcourses.org (ph: [0471] 2721917). The filled applications, along with documents, should be sent to the Communication Training Team, Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT), Chitranjali Hills, Thiruvallam, Thiruvananthapuram – 695 027 so as to reach there on or before October 30.
