PALAKKAD: Two youngsters from Coimbatore, who reached Chittur near here on Monday to attend a wedding, drowned in a water body in an abandoned granite quarry. The dead have been identified as Solaman Williams (17) and Karthick Satheesh Kumar (17), residents of Chungam in Coimbatore city.

The youngsters who attended the wedding at Irattakkulam had gone to Neythala on the way to Kozhinjampara to take bath in the quarry along with their friend Kulanthairaj. It was after Kulanthairaj informed the local people that fire force personnel from Chittur were summoned. They retrieved the bodies within half an hour. Solaman was an employee with a mobile phone retail outlet in Coimbatore. Karthick was a Plus Two student.
