       SN Trust election held amidst police security

KOLLAM: The election to the Kollam region director board of the Sree Narayana Trust was held on Sunday at the SN College amidst tight police security. The polling process was carried out at 25 booths. Though there were more than 10,000 persons in the voters list, only 4,383 polled to elect 97 director board members from the region.

There is an official panel led by the SN Trust secretary Vellappally Natesan and a rebel panel.

Both panels have 97 candidates each. The counting of votes also under heavy police security began after 6 p.m. and results are expected only by midnight. Along with Kollam, election to the SN Trust director board for the Thiruvananthapuram and Varkala regions too were held on Sunday.

The SN Trust has 10 regional units. For the election to the remaining seven regional units, the panel of Mr. Natesan had no opponents. Those units are Kannur, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Thrissur, Cherthala, Nangyarkulangara and Punalur.

In all, 684 director board members have to be elected from the ten regional units. The election for the SN Trust leaders will be held here on May 26.
