THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the government has not decided to inaugurate the Kochi Metro on May 30, and that the statement made by minister Kadakampally Surendran regarding the said date was because of a misunderstanding.

He further stated that the efforts to get a date from PM Modi are still on, and added that information regarding the Kochi Metro's inauguration was intimated to the PMO on April 11. "I expect the PM will give us a day inbetween his busy schedules. We will fix a date after we get a confirmation," he said.

Meanwhile, minister Kadakampally Surendran said that the government is not adamant about inaugurating the Kochi Metro on the said date, and added that there is no problem in changing the date of the inauguration to the convenience of the PM.

He further stated that the PMO was informed about the inauguration of Kochi Metro on April 11 but there was no response from them. He added that if the PM can confirm a date, they have no problem in postponing the inauguration to that date.

The new development is after the numerous allegations raised by the State BJP leaders that the government deliberately chose a date for the inauguration when the Prime Minister would be on a foriegn trip.
