KOCHI: “It is a thing of pride to have got the opportunity to take part in the inaugural function of Kochi Metro,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi after inaugurating Kochi Metro Rail at Kalur International on Saturday.

Modi, who started his inaugural speech with Namaskaram (in Malayalam) , read out the rest part of his speech in English from prepared a text.  He said the Metro would help the economic growth of the State.

His speech delved on the Metro’s specialities and expression of his gratitude to those who worked behind the project. But, he didn’t touch any other subject.

“For the nation, Kochi Metro is a role model for environmental-friendly development,” he said. Modi also expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Kochi people and the Union Urban Development department for their contribution to the project.
