THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is reported that Gaza Street in Kasargod district is under the close observation of Intelligence wing.

The street came to the notice of the Intelligence wing after it was given the namesake of a city in Palestine. The agency is checking for any terror link to the decision to give such a name to the street.

The road leading to Thuruthi Juma Masjid in Kasargod district was renamed last month as Gaza Street. The renaming ceremony was inaugurated by Kasargod district president AGC Basheer. He reacted to the development saying his presence was a mere coincidence.

The road was recently concreted, using the Municipality’s fund. But Municipality authorities informed that they were totally unaware of the renaming ceremony.

Meanwhile, BJP leadership alleged that attempts are going on to change the name of several places in similar manner. BJP leader P Ramesh said that such moves were often brought to the notice of Municipal Corporation.

Incidentally, the Intelligence agencies have put Padanna in Kasargod also under their radar following information that youths missing from here had joined the ISIS. The news of death of Palakkad native Sajeer Mangalassery who joined ISIS from Kerela also came in between this.
