KOCHI: Ernakulam Rural SP A V George has said some terrorists were behind the strike against IOC LPG Terminal at Puthuvypeen.

“During the last day’s strike, certain people with terror connection were spotted. We don’t think common people including women will come out on the road for this big strike,” he said.

The police have come out with this claim after the Opposition and Human Rights Commission slammed the police for severely beating up strikers which included children.

George said Human Rights violation had not happened and allegations against the police were baseless. “Though we were ready to release the ones taken into custody, the strikers were not ready to disperse. And, as there is no other way, we are going to produce them in the court,” he said.

Meanwhile, the hartal called by various organisations against police action went off in Ernakulam without any report of untoward incidents.
