THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: DGP Lokanath Behera has ordered the Crime Branch to investigate the unusual circumstances that led to the death of NCP state president Uzhavoor Vijayan, based on the complaint filed by the NCP Kottayam district committee. Crime Branch IG S Sreejith would be I charge of the probe.

The controversy surrounding Vijayan’s death broke out after a private channel released the audio clip of a telephonic conversation between Vijayan and NCP state secretary and Kerala Agro Industries Corporation chairman Sulfikkar Mayoori.

The audio clip contained conversations like: “Will trash him…kill him…I don’t mind spending a crore or two.”

This was followed by NCP’s official group’s state president T P Peethambaran Master demanding that a case needs to be filed against Sulfikkar, and the police too have started investigating into this.

People close to Uzhavoor Vijayan say that he had informed the NCP central leadership and CM Pinarayi Vijayan about the controversial phone conversation.

Sulfikkar had first called NCP youth wing leader Mujeeb Rehman and had similar conversations with him, before calling up Uzhavoor. It has been revealed that Uzhavoor collapsed after this conversation.

This audio clip justifies the allegation that Uzhavoor met with an untimely death because of the mental torture meted out to him by a section of the party. It is being evaluated that Uzhavoor got exhausted by the abuses and insults hurled at him over the phone.

Uzhavoor, who collapsed after his sugar level spiked, was first rushed to a private hospital in Kidangoor, and was later admitted in a private hospital in Kochi, where he breathed his last.
