CHENGDU: The death toll in an earthquake that struck China's Sichuan Province last week has risen to 24.

The number of injured has increased to 500 in the 7.0 magnitude quake.

As per latest reports, the possibility of rain in the area has raised fears of secondary hazards such as landslides.

The Xinhua news agency quoted the China Earthquake Network Centre (CENC), as saying, that the quake struck at a depth of 20 km.

Reportedly, the epicentre of the quake was located 33.2 degrees north latitude and 103.82 degrees east longitude.

Earlier, the earthquake administration had launched the second level of its four-tiered emergency response system and dispatched officers to the region to deal with emergencies.

The quake was also strongly felt in the provincial capital Chengdu about 300 km south of the epicentre.
