KOCHI: Kadavantra police arrested Babu Raju, 28, a resident of Attupuram near Puttingal temple in Kollam, on charges of having forced himself on an elderly woman at an apartment here on Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 2.30 p.m. when the woman came down to visit a shop nearby the apartment. The accused was caught by local residents after she screamed. They tied him up and handed over to the police alleging that he tried to misbehave with the woman. Police officials suspect that the accused was a drug addict and subjected him to medical tests later.

A case was registered against him under various provisions including Section 376 (punishment for rape) and Section 364 (b) (forcibly carries another person with the intention of committing harm), Section 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and Section 448 (punishment for house trespass).
