IDUKKI: A farmer working at a cardamom farm in Santhanpara was killed when a huge rock fell on him Saturday noon. The victim was Pethotty resident Ramdas, 60. Continuous rain for the past two days had loosened the soil and Ramdas was trapped when the rock came crashing down.

Though workers in a nearby estate tried to pull him out, they could not save his life. He was rushed to the taluk hospital at Nedumkandam and was pronounced brought dead. His body was handed over to relatives after an autopsy at the hospital. Large areas of cardamom fields were damaged in the landslip after the rock caved in.
