Later, the university has affected changes in the function taking into account the protocol and security considerations for the visit of Sheikh Sultan. The two other awardees will be conferred the honorary degrees later.

"As per the direction from the Ministry of External Affairs and the state government we have decided to confer the honorary doctorate only to Sheikh Sultan at the function scheduled to be held on September 26.The state government has formally written to the varsity on the matter. On receiving the communication, I had met the chancellor and he has asked to suggest another date to confer the honorary doctorates to Mohanlal and P T Usha ", University Vice-Chancellor Mohammed Basheer said.

He said that the changes in the function has been conveyed to Mohanlal and Usha and they have also agreed to it. "We are planning to confer the honorary degrees to them within one month after the first function”, he added.
